Life can hit you fast, and when I say fast, I mean your mom just got home and now you need to thaw out the chicken ASAP, fast. One year ago this time, I was completely lost. I had just been robbed of all of my valuables, was poorly managing a two-year-old heartache, and just stepped foot in a brand new city. There was no way I could have known that only 365 days later I would be in a completely different mindset, absolved of all my guilt from my previous relationship and oblivious of the things I lost in last year's robbery.

Time is a punch in the gut that you never see coming, but it teaches you that just as fast as you fell, you can get back up. Porsha Williams is a testament to that statement and after suffering years of disappointment and heartbreak, I'm sure she'd agree that time heals all, even when it comes to breaking off a widely publicized engagement.

Media outlets recently announced that after being engaged for eight months, Real Housewives of Atlanta star Porsha Williams and her fiance entrepreneur Dennis McKinley confirmed that their romantic relationship is over. Rumors of the couple's split started last month after cheating allegations, which have since been denied by McKinley, surfaced online. Although the couple has been tight-lipped about their separation, Porsha confirmed suspicions of their severed relationship when she was spotted on her mommy-daughter vacation in Hollywood, Florida without her engagement ring.

As I said before, time can hit you fast, and in less than ten years, Porsha has experienced an emotional rollercoaster that includes but is not limited to marriage, divorce, childbirth, and miscarriage, and most recently, childbirth. Despite her recent split from Dennis, Porsha is adamant about the fact that a true miracle came from their relationship. Last year, when she discovered that she was expecting Baby Pilar, she said:

"No one will ever understand what it means to me—for me to have gone through a miscarriage before, all by myself, without the person who made that child with me as my support, to now be pregnant and have the man who is the father of my child be so loving, so thoughtful, it means the world to me."

Last week, at the American Black Film Festival, the 37-year-old mother-of-one hinted at why she's been fairly quiet about the recent split with her former fiance. According to Porsha, as a reality star with little-to-no privacy when it comes to her personal life, it's important to keep family matters private. She explained:

"I am on a reality television show and I do pride myself on being transparent on the show, but at the same time I'm human and when you're talking about family, something that you want for a lifetime, you have to protect it. What I will always do is make sure I protect family. He will always be my daughter's father and I will absolutely love him forever. We absolutely go through our ups and downs together. And I still thank God for the blessing I claimed a year ago. There are still be things in any of us that aren't perfect, that we have to deal with as a family. But overall I am still thankful to God and I know he is holding both of our hands as long as we stay in prayer."

Time can never guarantee us perfection in our lives, but it can allow us the space, energy, and tenacity that we need to heal and become better versions of ourselves. A source revealed that there may be a chance of reconciliation between the couple, and truthfully, only time can tell.

Letting go is a gift we are given and a strength that we find throughout our lives. There are times when we want to grab ahold of what we are experiencing and sensing, and times when we need to let go of something that was once everything to us or what we wanted for ourselves. The moment you conclude that you need to let something go in your life is the moment that your brain fights to make that happen for you.

Should You Follow Your Partner On Social Media? (The Answer May Surprise You)

Typically, Tyler Perry movies and I don’t get along very well — for a myriad of reasons; however, there are a couple throughout the years that I have found myself appreciating. One is a film that I’m really trying to wrap my entire mind around the fact that it is 18 years old this year: Why Did I Get Married?

As I sat down to write this article, there was a specific scene that immediately came to my mind. It’s when all of the couples were sitting outside and discussing certain boundaries concerning their relationship. When the topic of passcodes to phones came up, if memory serves me right, one couple said that they didn’t have each other’s passcodes, another said that they did but don’t use them, and — surprise, surprise — the consistently most dramatic couple Marcus (Michael Jai White) and Angela (Tasha Smith) were forever going at it because Marcus didn’t want Angela to have access to his phone.
