Beauty And Fashion Influencer Candace Marie Shows Us How To Turn Braids Into A Work Of Art

"Episode 1 Hair Me Out"

This post is in partnership with Ulta Beauty.

Candace Marie, like many Black women, has been on a journey with her hair. From hot combs to cornrows, she’s tried and done it all. As fate would have it, hair has become her signature ingredient, and if you follow her, you know her style switch-ups are anything but basic (trust me, she never disappoints!)

During the very first episode of our “Beautiful Soul” series in partnership with Ulta Beauty, xoNecole founder Necole Kane sat down with Candace as she puts a sweet spin on her cornrows. Before braiding the top of her braids into a heart pattern, Candace shows us how she preps her hair, adding a surge of moisture and scalp protection. Once the braids are complete, she’ll then walk us through how she maintains and wraps her hair to keep the style protected and looking fresh.

The social media consultant and influencer has an impressive career in luxury fashion, having lent her talents to big brands like Prada, Parkwood, and Barney’s New York. She eventually took a leap of faith and became an entrepreneur, launching her own brand. She’s also giving back through her organization Black In Corporate, which aims to create a safe space for Black women and men who seek relief, support, and a sense of community within their jobs. Candace is one of Ulta Beauty’s MUSE 100 honorees, which celebrates 100 inspiring Black voices in beauty. Ulta Beauty recognizes Candace as a luminous leader. She’s taking her years of experience in corporate luxury fashion and sharing it to help other Black creatives succeed.

Watch as Necole and Candace chat through their most cherished hair memories and can’t-live-without routine in this fun “Get Ready With Me” segment.

Alaska-travel-glacier

We all have bucket list destinations at the top of our lists. I visited one of those at the top of 2024: Japan! But what happens when you get an opportunity to go someplace that wasn’t on it? For me, that was Alaska. Now, I’d submitted my short film to the Anchorage International Film Festival, genuinely thinking it would be a long shot to get in with a short film about fibroids and Black women’s health.

1 In 4 Men And Women Are Faking It—Science Explains How To Change That

It’s no secret that I can’t stand fake orgasms. There are a billion reasons why — some of which I will get into in just a moment. For now, what I will say is, even if you can rationalize that faking orgasms will “get you out of” the sex that you may be having at the moment, when it comes to long-term satisfaction and benefits, how is faking it really going to get you anywhere? At least anywhere good — which is what you totally and absolutely deserve.

Black-woman-basking-in-light-of-the-sun-letting-go

Letting go is a gift we are given and a strength that we find throughout our lives. There are times when we want to grab ahold of what we are experiencing and sensing, and times when we need to let go of something that was once everything to us or what we wanted for ourselves. The moment you conclude that you need to let something go in your life is the moment that your brain fights to make that happen for you.

Woman Wrapped in a Towel after a Shower Holding a Skin Care Product

At the tender age of 29, I discovered the world of skincare after complaining to a coworker about excessively oily skin. Her list of suggested products? A cleanser, toner, serum, and moisturizer in that exact order. It was that simple. Easy enough, I began using her recommendations, and my life was completely changed forever.

Now that I'm in my 30s and diving deeper into my love of beauty, I've begun to question the simplicity of my everyday regimen wondering if there's more to maintaining beautiful, healthy, and youthful-looking skin.
