The feeling you get when you try to slide on a pair of jeans that you can no longer fit alternates between frustrating and sad.
It's sad because you know that you're going to have to put in some major work to get rid of that extra junk in the trunk. But it's frustrating because you love those jeans.
Many women have experienced this feeling, and no one understands weight fluctuation better than Rihanna.
In a society where women are constantly concerned about their weight (at least the weight that hits “less desirable" places on the body), the Bajan beauty had something incredibly liberating to say about her body The Cut:
“One day I can literally fit into something that is bodycon, and then the next day – the next week – I need something oversized; I need a little crop here and a high-waist there to hide that part, you know?"
This goes out to every woman who put on an outfit that looked bomb in their heads, but critiqued themselves to death in the mirror to discourage themselves from wearing it. The 29-year-old fashion icon has her days of feeling at a weight that's less than ideal too – the difference?
Rihanna is unapologetic af, owns her size, and makes her fashion choices work for her instead making her body work to be in the clothes.
“I really pay attention every day when I go into the closet about what's working for my body that morning. I feel like that's how everyone should go about fashion, because it's an individual thing. And then, if you take it further, it's like: What week are you having? You having a skinny week? You having a fat week? Are we doing arms this week? We doing legs this week? We doing oversized?"
Instead of punishing yourself for gaining that freshman 15, that office 20, that pregnant 30, or that love weight 15, don't be afraid of the switch-up in the kind of looks you deliver in your day-to-day life. The R&B diva's last bit of advice for loving the skin you're in at the weight you're at?
“I think it's important to make sure that you wear the thing that works for your body the best, and that's flattering."
As far as being inspired by trends, Instagram is the last place she'll be looking to step her style game up.
Instagram is the death of all trends. Once it gets there, it's too late. It's gone. I'm so over it. I can't; I can't deal.
Ain't that the truth!
Earlier this summer, the “Work" singer clapped back at people's fascination with her wearing larger clothes and what appeared to be a little weight gain by posting a meme on Instagram that said:
“If you can't accept me at my 2007 Gucci Mane, you don't deserve me at my 2017 Gucci Mane."
One thing's for sure, Riri has all of the ingredients to the sauce and then some. No wonder she has this unapologetic game on lock. It's more than a vibe for her, it's a state of being.
She just is.
