I don't know who needs to hear this but you'll never get your 17-year-old body back.
But the good news is, you can be fine as f*ck right now. Just ask Tia Mowry, who needs you to know that being healthy is a marathon, not a sprint. In a recent video on YouTube, the actress opened up her postpartum journey and says that 17 months in, she's lost 60 pounds and is proud AF of her progress.
Tia has been our sibling our heads since the 90s' and over the past few decades, sis has gone through some changes—all of which she embraces the hell out of; but things weren't always this way. In 2011, after giving birth to her son, Cree, Tia says that she felt immense pressure to snap back and lose the weight she gained during her pregnancy. But after giving birth to her daughter Cairo last year, Tia wanted to approach her fitness journey with a different perspective.
"Everybody has a different journey. I just want people to understand that they don't have to have that snapback body two months after having a baby. I feel like we live in a society that pushes that. That's one of the main reasons I want to show myself in a vulnerable place."
Throughout her postpartum fitness journey, Tia has been met with some pretty nasty feedback that has forced her to adopt a more body-positive way of thinking. In a candid Instagram post, the actress wrote:
"Checking in. #17months post-pregnant. I did it my way and in my time. Many women feel the need to #snapback right away after they deliver. That was never the goal for me. I was called #fat during my #pregnancy and I was called #fat after my #pregnancy. Why do we do this to each other? Instead of #love one another other? I will never understand that."
She went on to explain that although there were moments that she cried and considered giving up, she intentionally documented her experience to encourage women to love their bodies no matter where they are on their fitness journey.
"I intentionally documented my journey and became vulnerable to show #women that it's okay to go at your own pace, it is okay to love yourself no matter where you are in your journey. Do not fold to societal pressures. After hard work with just diet and exercise, today I'm closer to my goal. Do I have loose skin and stretch marks? YES. Guess what?? I LOVE all me and I want you to love all of you too."
Fitness isn't just about weight loss, it's about being happy in the skin you're in, and Tia says that's exactly the reason she started. In a previous interview, Tia explained:
"I'm not as thin as I used to be, but that's OK. I'm who I am, and I just want to encourage moms to embrace those changes. Those changes didn't happen in vain. We all go through cycles. That's life. We don't have to be perfect, so embrace your imperfections."
