There are two things in this life that are probably worse than a prison sentence: finding bed bugs in your hotel room, and trying to rid your house of a bed bug infestation.
Okay, I'm kidding. But that's just how bad I hate bed bugs. There's this idea that people who live in nasty houses are the ones who are most likely to get bed bugs. But with cities fighting tooth and nail to rid their residents of mass bed bug infestations, especially in hotels and restaurants, this idea is certainly not true.
Any business or household could get bed bugs, and anyone visiting a hotel or business knows that those creepy little suckers could easily make themselves comfy in your luggage, on the bottom of your shoes, or inside of your purse. That's exactly what happened to one California couple who found themselves fighting off bed bugs in a hotel room during a New Year's trip to New York.
In a viral video uploaded to YouTube after the first of the year, Elgin Ozlen and his girlfriend showed viewers the horror that they were met with in their room at the Astor on the Park Hotel on the Upper West Side in Manhattan. Elgin said in the video,
"[We are] Going to now the third room that we've been moved to in two nights. The first one, the heater didn't work. The second one, the power outlets didn't work, so we couldn't charge our phones. The third room we're in is going to shock you, because half the power outlets don't work, the heater doesn't work as well. And then the surprise, you're going to see for yourself."
Then he went into his hotel room, lifted his matters, and and showed video of what looked like dirt on his mattress. It was actually a colony of bed bugs. Yuck!
