Meagan Good knew that DeVon Franklinwas her husband before they even started dating and that was a word for me because I, too, have several husbands in my head who are oblivious to our future matrimony.
The difference between me and Meagan's situation is, God actually told her that DeVon was her future partner in life and on a recent episode of the Tamron Hall Show, the 38-year-old actress shared exactly how it went down.
The couple, who initially met on the set of Jumping the Broom, sat down with the host and explained that although they didn't immediately start dating after they met, Meagan quickly decided that DeVon was exactly the type of man she could see herself marrying.
But God won't open doors you aren't prepared to enter, and that's exactly why Meagan was given a few prerequisites before making the man of her dreams, her partner in life––for starters, she had to get out of the relationship she was already in.
"The first thing God told me was that it was time to get out of that relationship. The second thing that God told me was that it was time to be celibate. The third thing God told me was that DeVon was my husband."
With these instructions, it was on and cracking. Meagan began to speak what she wanted into existence, even if he didn't know it yet.
"I started telling friends and family that DeVon was my husband and they were like, 'Oh really? Does he know that?"'
Meanwhile, DeVon explained that he was totally unaware of Meagan's plans for his future. Despite this fact, Meagan was relentless in the pursuit of the man God said would one day be her husband:
"I told all my girlfriends, I was like, 'You're going to meet my husband tonight.' So we're following him around the party like teenage schoolgirls. We went out two weeks later and literally, from the time of going out, it was ten months later we were engaged and two months later we were married."
Early last week, our good sis Shellie R. Warren gave us the game on choosing a partner––and a path, and the couple says knowing this fact has been essential to their journey. The couple say that the shared desire to remain celibate helped them keep that promise to one another until their wedding day:
"We had to know our triggers. That means some nights we couldn't Netflix and chill. We couldn't do it! We had sleepovers, but again, you had to know your boundaries."
"Some days I'd be weak, she'd be strong, some days she'd be weak, I'd be strong. So it was both of us wanting the same thing, but being okay to let moment by moment dictate what we did in those moments."
