I know someone who post their celebrity clients as if they’re balling, he actually does their hair for free. He also calls me every month to borrow money, I just ended that tragic friendship.

    1. I was a hair stylist during undergrad and that’s hustling backwards doing hair free. A discount maybe. Many of these “celebs” are broke and want things free. Joy Lynn Once or twice yes, but not all the time. I was tired of lending him rent money that I haven’t received.

  2. I’ve tried this with Instagram…..totally deactivated it last month..people live fake lives and then the impressionable minds fall victim to false reality. They then envy the beauty/lives and become depressed….sad…any social media really.

    2. That’s me. I call it “insta-pression”. I be instantly depressed every time I log out of IG. 😩

    3. “Insta-pression”,I absolutely love that name for it. But yes,I know how you feel. I would get anxiety from it. I also think In the near feature there will be mental illnesses linked to social media.(meaning they will have a psychological name for it). It’s all fake…nothing/noone is perfect….”perfect” doesn’t exist.

    4. We are essentially brainwashing ourselves every time we log in,scroll, like,or double tap.

..Never seek validation for your own beauty through outside sources…NEVER!

    6. You shouldn’t feel the need to be “liked” by anybody, because not every body is going to “like” YOU. No matter what you do! And it has everything to do with them.

Thank you guys ! Yeah, Issa struggle . Issues we need to address. There is this 43 yr old chick in this fitness group I am in and does she look great? Yes! But the need for approval from others is too much. She is 43 yrs old always posting her butt for “hump day”. It kinda hit me like , will I ever get over the need to feel “liked” or will I turn into this older lady who is posting body pics everyday for attention , even at 40 ? I don’t want that for myself. Maybe , you guys can make an article on “insta-pression” ? xoNecole.com

    8. @cha Seeking validation of yourself from outside sources is just so bad :-(. Let’s say you wake up feeling beautiful right? You walk outside getting hella compliments and then all of a sudden someone calls you ugly. You feel shattered and rushed with anxiety because the comment went against the perfection you want everyone to see. You want everyone to “like” YOU for what you see yourself as and that’s not healthy. The only “like” or “double tap” that’s needed is from yourself and your self esteem. 😍

I understand what she is going through. Since reading this article I’ve become more self aware of this issue and now will delete my social media apps.

  5. My phone literally consumes my life I really have my phone in my hand all day long until bed time. Often times I fall asleep with my phone in my hand.

    1. I’m going to try that along with maybe going one day without getting on social media 1 day per week.

  13. Finding Peace says:

Social media can effect us more than we realize. I also had to take a step back. When I started with Facebook, I deleted my old page and recreated a new one for just family since we are scattered all around the world. My “friends”– who have my number and can check in any time–were not pleased when they realized it and felt some kind of way smh. Social media is not reality. Friendships and relationships should not be contingent on social media. That’s my two cents lol.

  14. Absolutely on board with this. Facebook can have the same effects, hell all forms of social media honestly. You can’t help it, you constantly compare and critique yourself because you see your virtual peers ‘winning’. It’s all an illusion. I’ve found myself second-guessing things in my own life because of this and I take breaks often to get back to reality.

  15. Kay says:

I took a break from Social media for about a month recently (I do this every now and again), and deleted all of the apps. Just last week, I signed off of FB. I only have that account to keep in touch with family out of state, but sometimes, I get tired of seeing their posts as well. The only one I have re-downloaded is Twitter, because it keeps me up-to-date with the news of the day, but now that’s starting to become a bit much with all of the disasters occurring out here in the world. Kudos to Amandla for ditching her iPhone.

  16. Yea I really can relate to this .. my bf hates my phone and thinks I’m addicted.. I just want to put it down and be able to focus long enough to read a book or magazine like I used to but the phone has replaced them

    1. I feel you about just wanting to read books again. Lol! I have quite a few books, and I keep buying them because I really do want to read them. I have good intentions, but this darn phone with all these apps- FB, Instagram, Periscope, website subscriptions, etc… 😱 I’m just tryna can read my good books but I can’t… 🤣🤣🤣

I’ve done it before and will continue to do it periodically. I think it’s important for us to deactivate and detach from the digital world. It can be super overwhelming
